Hmmm...
I'm supposed to be writing
mistiec's ChLana story right now. Instead, my mind came up with this. Heh. Maybe I needed to clear the mental decks of the flotsam from cow-orker's (tm Scott Adams) betrayal at work yesterday. Eh, it is of the past -- I'm not planning on being at the company any longer than is necessary anyway. Many thanks to
happyminion and
lexcorp_hope for listening to my ravings about the sitch. *hugs the girls*
Anyway... *jumps off sidetrack*
Title: Silicon
Codes: Lex, Clark/Lex
Spoilers: None
Summary: Lex obtains no satisfaction from breaking fragile things.
Notes: Heavy debts style-wise to
lexcorp_hope and
hackthis -- hope you ladies take that as the compliment it's meant to be *g*
-----------------------
Lex obtains no satisfaction from breaking fragile things. Not anymore, at least. The thrill of destruction fades too fast to be tangible. Sadistic glass-blowers create beauty from silicon, so delicate that the crystal silently dared him to be careful enough. The tinkling shards always sang in mocking voices when they hit the floor, and the choral derision irritated him more than the mess. Lex stopped throwing glasses a long time ago.
"You were right, Lex."
He now prefers to wreak destruction more deliberately, and on more challenging targets. Silicon can form rock as well as glass. Stone stands resilient, firm -- heaving it against a wall sent it careening back, intact and prepared for another blow. Quick, easy victory remained stubbornly out of reach, making the prospect of breaking the molecular bonds eminently more enticing.
"It's pointless."
Erosion had seemed like the most effective course of action. Solid edifices become sand, given enough water and time. Even a monolith will topple once the ocean has battered away its supporting base. Lex's experience proved that the fallen stone remained an obstacle, forcing the sea to batter itself against a wider surface. Temporary victory damned the waves, leaving them whispering hollow growls of frustration.
"No matter how much I do, it's never enough."
Still, Lex had time and inexorable fact on his side. No matter how invulnerable its surface may seem, nothing is indestructible. Science guarantees some impurity within the bonds, a weakness waiting to be exploited. Tenacity, trial and error -- these would eventually reveal the right tool; the exact amount of pressure and where to apply it.
"I don't want to waste any more time."
Knowing triumph is inevitable doesn't lessen the shock of seeing it come to fruition.
"I don't want to be a super hero."
Convincing the rock that it wants to break?
"I want to be yours."
That's the most delicious conquest of all.
-- End --
And because I had to know if my hunch was correct, I took the BtVS Scoobies quiz. Gakked from
spike21.
which scooby are you?
Given the givens, this is highly appropriate. *g*
Okay, now I'm going to relax for a bit and then get cracking on Prom Night fic.
